Kes 0-2 Windy

This week KWC faced what could easily be their toughest opponents in the league as they welcomed local neighbours Windermere.
Having pipped the visitors to the County Cup months previous, KWC held the upper hand, but with 4 games played each, both sides sat well at the summit of the league with impressive 100% starts to the campaign.
Both sides seem to field their strongest starting line-ups showing evermore the clear importance of the fixture.
The game began at a frantic pace with both sides utilising their pace at every given opportunity in order to strike first blood but neither defence was in any mood to leak an early goal. Fennell and Mattear were sublime from the start and maintained this level until the end.
A game of counter attacks more than build up play, chances were limited at either end and gave a sense of the more they tried, the harder it became. KWC simply did not play to their strengths of possession retention and insisted of driving forward at every opportunity. In a sense it did help threaten the visiting D a little more than their own but all too often possession was turned over and KWC were on the retreating backfoot once again. Eventually, Windermere had the all important lead via a well picked out pass to the backpost for a simple finish and although it may have seemed a little against the run of attacking play, it may be said it was due to West’s own doing.
The score remained until the break and after the interval, KWC came back out with a sense of urgency to claim at least a share of the spoils.
The game continued to remain tight and closely contested and both sides were reluctant to concede the goal which would drastically change the game.
With this, the game began to get more aggressive and hard fought with a couple of borderline challenges being thrown in. A difficult game to officiate but a couple of debateable decisions in quick succession cost KWC dearly as a short corner was harshly awarded and converted to give Wests an uphill task of salvaging anything.
KWC continued to push and towards the end bombarded the Windermere D with waves of attack but as the game became stretched ‘Mere broke effectively and were unlucky to strike the post which would have killed off the game.
Any hope must have been eradicated when Proctor was denied in superb style to set up a grandstand finale and KWC played out to drop their first points of the campaign
