Keswick Through To Next Round Of Cup After 2-0 Win!

On Sunday Keswick men’s 1s hosted Lymm 1s in the England Hockey Vase Cup for their second game of the weekend.
After a tough game the day before Keswick had to be on top form to get through to the next round as they were facing a Lymm side who are in the league above.
Hoping for a good cup run, Keswick were eager to put in a good performance and grasped the game from the first whistle.
In the first half Keswick kept the ball well, creating several attacking chances, with full-backs Paul Randell and Robert Owen pushing on and getting balls into the box, but unfortunately Keswick were unable to capitalise.
Keswick came very close to converting through a Mark Proctor flick from a short corner, which went just wide of the goal.
The first goal of the game came with the final touch of the first half when Keswick were awarded a short corner. Shaun Wilson injected out to Robert Owen to stop for Proctor, who fired the ball to the back post for striker Jack Chippendale to deflect in and give Keswick a one goal lead at half time.

In the second half Keswick were looking very confident and were playing some excellent hockey against a team who are a league above them.
Keswick fought hard all afternoon, and wide men Charlie Jackson and Clive Swanston covered plenty of ground to help out in both defence and attack.
The second goal of the game came from Keswick left-back Robert Owen. Owen collected the ball on the left hand side of the pitch and attacked into the oppositions D, taking it brilliantly passed 3 Lymm defenders, and smashing it into the bottom left corner from the edge of the area to put Keswick 2-0 up with 15 minutes remaining.
Keswick were eager finish the game with a clean sheet, and central midfielders Shaun Wilson and man of the match Paul Sloan kept the ball well and nullified any Lymm attacks.
Lymm did have an opportunity to pull a goal back with the final short corner of the game, but the Keswick defence saw the ball go wide and the final whistle went to see Keswick go through to the 3rd round of the England Hockey Vase Cup.
